Combining Heterogeneous Data Sources through Query Correspondence Assertions

چکیده
1. ABSTRACT The WWW today offers free access to a wealth of heterogeneous data sources. Combining related data from different sources in a comfortable and automatic fashion is not possible. We present our approach to this problem that is based on a declarative representation of the content of heterogeneous data sources with respect to a global schema. We describe our language to express these correspondences and give the algorithm that uses them to answer global queries. 1.1

Query Mediation for Heterogeneous Data Sources
We present a novel approach to the problem of query mediation in a tight federation of heterogeneous, distributed data sources. It is based on query correspondence assertions (QCAs), which are set-equation between conjunctive queries. We use them as rules to express relationships between heterogeneous and autonomously maintained schemas. We describe an algorithm that uses QCAs to translate quer...
متن کاملUsing Correspondence Assertions to Specify the Semantics of Views in an Object-Relational Data Warehouse
An information integration system provides a uniform query interface for collecting of distributed and heterogeneous, possibly autonomous, information sources, giving users the illusion that they interrogate a centralized and homogeneous information system. One approach that has been used for integrating data from multiple databases consists in creating integrated views, which allows for querie...
متن کاملTranslating WFS Query to SQL/XML Query
The purpose of the WFS specification, proposed by the the OpenGIS Consortium (OGC), is to describe the manipulation operations over geospatial data using GML. Web servers providing WFS service are called WFS Servers. WFS servers publish GML views of geographic features stored in data sources such that the user can query and update data sources through a user defined feature type schema. In this...
متن کاملDesigning a Global Information Resource for Molecular Biology
Research in molecular biology is continuously producing an immense amount of data, but this information is spread over numerous heterogeneous data repositories. Their integration into a federated information system would drastically reduce the time a biologist has to spend browsing different WWW sites or databases in search for a particular piece of information. In this study we point out the s...
متن کاملO Ontology-Based Data Access and Integration
An ontology-based data integration (OBDI) system is an information management system consisting of three components: an ontology, a set of data sources, and the mapping between the two. The ontology is a conceptual, formal description of the domain of interest to a given organization (or a community of users), expressed in terms of relevant concepts, attributes of concepts, relationships betwee...
